The M. Zuiko 25mm f1.8

Directionality

I was given the chance to try a brand new M. Zuiko 25mm f1.8 so of course I did not let the opportunity pass. It was no surprise the lens is great. It's like the M. Zuiko 45mm f1.8 except this one comes with a hood. The black version also didn't seem plasticky to me. Unfortunately, I did not get the chance to compare it with the silver version. I'd expect it would be similar to the 45mm f1.8. The biggest surprise to me is that the lens is made in Japan.

POTD: The way I see it

The way I see it

This is a representation of how I shoot these days. It contains most of the subjects that interest me recently: People, trees and architecture/geometry.

POTD: Cloud Power

All About Clouds

I saw this on my way home a few days ago and I of course had to document it. I only got the chance to process it today and I'm very happy to see the results. I had the Olympus E-P1 with me that day and the M. Zuiko 45mm f1.8 on it. The E-P1 still delivers!

Olympus Lensbook / 2014

I was waiting for it for a while now and I finally received this today. Production was in January 2014 but due to some delays it didn't ship until recently. Happy times!

The M. Zuiko 75mm f1.8

M. Zuiko 75mm f1.8
My Precious

I recently acquired the M. Zuiko 75mm f1.8 and I'm very glad I did. I've been longing for this lens for a while now because I could not afford it when it came out. I finally caved in and sold some of my lenses (this is one of the reasons why I sold my 12mm f2 and Pana-Leica 25mm F1.4) so I could fund the purchase of this great lens. Perhaps one if not the best MFT lens at the moment.

My last outing with the Pana-Leica 25mm F1.4

The Path

Some of you know I sold my Pana-Leica 25mm F1.4 and before I did I took it out for a much needed photo wander and my legs took me under and over the Cambie bridge. All photos in this post were made using the Leica DG Summilux 25mm F1.4 ASPH and the Olympus OM-D E-M5. Enjoy these monos!

Photoessay: Old and New Vancouver

Chevrolet Apache

This is a set from my wanders around Vancouver, BC. It does not cover the whole city of course but this set kind of captures the different colours that the city brings. It has that old and new character combination which is interesting in my own opinion. Enjoy.

Camera Gear Lust

Camera Gear Lust
Shot with an iPhone, please excuse any errors
Do you consider yourself a photography hobbyist? If you do then you most likely have gone through a phase were you lusted for camera gear. I think it's common and I'm pretty sure a lot of you would be able to relate. I went through this phase myself and for a few times already. I don't like it and it's something that is quite hard to resist. If you're able to resist the temptation and use it as a challenge (I call it diversion) then good but if you succumb and give in then it's what I call temporary satisfaction. You're satisfied until the next newer version comes out.

Olympus E-M5 Firmware Ver 2.0, ISO Low Tests - Part I

Urban trees

Olympus recently released a firmware update to the Olympus E-M5 which includes two revisions:
  1. Small AF target was added to the AF target settings.
  2. ISO Low (100 equivalent) was expanded on the low sensitivity side.
Here is a link to the Olympus Japan website that shows the history of firmware updates up to Ver 2.0. In this blog post I will be showing images comparing the native ISO of the E-M5 (ISO 200) vs the new ISO Low (ISO 100 equivalent) of the latest firmware Ver 2.0.

Olympus ZD 60mm f/2.8 Macro vs Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 AI-s

Olympus ZD60 vs the Micro-Nikkor 55mm

I got the chance to borrow an Olympus M. Zuiko Digital 60mm f/2.8 from a friend just before Christmas and so in this post I will show example images made from it and the Micro-NIKKOR 55mm f/2.8 (used with a Fotodiox Nik-m4/3 adapter of course). Don't expect to see a technical comparison. I'm going to simply let the images speak for themselves.

My Photographic Resolutions for 2014

Untitled

2013 has been a good year photographically for me. It was a building and learning year and I've learned a lot. I'm looking forward to this year and I'm actually quite excited. All the best to all of you!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
